The Easthills Rock The Vogue

Words and Photography by Kurt Anno

The Rushville, Indiana band The Easthills perform at the Vogue Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have photographed this band on various occasions and at various venues before. This is one band that I go as much to enjoy the music and their show as I do to photograph. What still stays with me as I have gotten more familiar with the band and their repertoire, is the uniqueness of their sound. It is straight up Rock and Roll. It is no frills. It is “what you see is what you get.” It is pounding beats and stellar vocals. They truly are unlike any band I have heard. There is a big sound here with three guitarists. Banner Morgan is the newest member and rounds out the band with great solo work. The harmonies of Hank Campbell and Will Barada truly set these guys apart from the pack. There are many influences at work here that have molded and meshed into a sound that is truly all theirs. It’s not heavy and hard and in your face, yet it is attention grabbing in a big, big way. The music just comes at you. Finding a band that can write original music without sounding like anything else is no easy task. The Easthills are mature, hard working, talented musicians that have worked tirelessly over the last couple of years to make their mark. They have opened for such acts as Heart, Here Come the Mummies, REO Speedwagon, Blues Traveler and more. The hard work has really paid off for the quintet and you can see that with the increasingly larger and larger crowds they draw. Their critically acclaimed full length debut album, “Death Of A Salesman” will soon be followed up with a new album in early 2015.  You can find a full review of Death Of A Salesman by Jack Smith here. The band is at work in the studio and 2015 promises to be a banner year for the band. I for one,  am truly excited to see what they have in store for the new record and the upcoming year.

The band  appeared as the first full band on “Off The Air” with Chick McGee. You can now download 6 free songs from this session. Click here.
