L.L. COOL J – Saturday, Oct. 8th, ACL 2016
L.L. COOL J is a two-time Grammy Award winner, recording artist, talented actor, author, NAACP Image Award winner, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
He’s hitting the Samsung Stage for the second weekend of ACL on Saturday, October 8th.
ACL Schedule
If you are lucky enough to be at Zilker Park on Saturday, you don’t want to miss L.L. Cool J. We recommend getting there early, taking plenty of H2O, and investing in an umbrella to shade yourself while waiting for the afternoon sun to drop.
L.L. Cool J is a patron saint of hip-hop, and he brings old school back with break dancers, boom boxes, and Adidas track suits. During the condensed set at ACL, he snarls, stomps and stalks the stage like a trained boxer and leaves us on the ropes with his chart-toppers.
This short festival set starts where it should — with his 1990 hit, “Mama Said Knock You Out” and highlights hits like, “Jack the Ripper” and “I’m Bad.” On “I Need Love” L.L. stares longingly down into the front rows, charming the girls with his dangerous aura and tossing them roses while rapping starry-eyed lines like, “I’ll lay down my jacket so you can walk over a puddle.”. He scowls, flexes his large biceps and fist pumps as the hits come pumping out of the speakers.
L.L. COOL J is dialing in his audience by celebrating hip-hop and old school. He thrives today because he has a sense of his past and uses the original elements of the Hip-Hop genre to keep his performances fresh, and alive. Don’t miss his performance on Saturday, October 8th at the Samsung Stage.
