RIP Robbie Robertson.

Canadian, Robbie Robertson, legendary lead guitarist of “The Band” and primary songwriter who penned “The Weight,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Up On Cripple Creek” and many other beloved classics, died on August 9, 2023 at age 80. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.

The Band was a critically acclaimed and influential band that emerged during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band’s members included: Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals), Levon Helm (drums, vocals), Rick Danko (bass, vocals), Richard Manuel (keyboards, vocals), and Garth Hudson (keyboards, saxophone.)

Robertson drove The Band’s musical direction and he is behind many of their most memorable songs. His songwriting often delved into historical and descriptive themes, reflecting his interest in storytelling.
