Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr, known professionally as Bakar, has been carving out a unique space in the music scene since his debut. Born on February 12, 1994, in Camden Town, London, Bakar’s music is a reflection of his diverse background, with Yemeni and Tanzanian roots influencing his sound. His journey began in 2015, cutting up samples from Bombay Bicycle Club and King Krule, which he uploaded to SoundCloud under an anonymous account. This experimental phase laid the groundwork for what would become a signature style that defies easy categorization.

Bakar’s rise to fame was marked by his 2018 mixtape ‘Badkid,’ a project that showcased his ability to blend punk, rock, rap, and indie into a sound that’s both fresh and nostalgic. The mixtape featured hits like ‘Big Dreams,’ which later gained popularity after being featured on the FIFA 19 soundtrack. But it was his 2019 single ‘Hell N Back’ that became his calling card, a track that resonates with its catchy melody and heartfelt lyrics. The song not only charted on the Adult Alternative Airplay but also made its way into the hearts of fans worldwide.

His latest album, ‘Halo,’ released on September 22, 2023, continues to build on his eclectic style and has been met with critical acclaim. Bakar’s music speaks to a generation that doesn’t want to be boxed in, to those who find beauty in the blend of cultures and sounds.

Bakar’s talents have not gone unnoticed in the world of television and film either. His track ‘Hell N Back’ has featured in shows like ‘Dickinson,’ ‘Single Drunk Female,’ and ‘Ballers,’ showcasing his appeal across different media platforms.

As Bakar steps onto the ACLfest stage, he carries with him not just the weight of his past successes but the promise of a future where music knows no boundaries.
