Jack Johnson @Ruoff Music Center
Jack Johnson is an American singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and former professional surfer. He reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart with his albums Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George in 2006. He’s on tour with his eighth studio album and first full-length release in five years, “Meet The Moonlight.”
Johnson makes modern surf music. It’s acoustic with hints of folk, blues, and reggae, but it’s all inspired by the ocean. He told Rolling Stone magazine: “Just get me out in the ocean, really. I’ve become dependent on it. It’s hard when you start an addiction at age five.”
Johnson’s shows are like going to a large party with friends and family. He exudes tremendous ease on stage and is far from a typical, moody rockstar. His set is simple & sustainable, passing on elaborate props and instead providing an intimate atmosphere for his close-knit fans. The show opened with “Hope” and for nearly two hours Johnson had the audience surfing his wave. He wrapped up the evening with; Do You Remember, Home, Angel, & Better Together. If you’re in search of an endless summer, Jack Johnson is the set you’ve been waiting for.
