ZZ Ward Reclaims Her Blues Crown on ‘Mother’ EP

With her first release under Sun Records, the singer-songwriter balances motherhood and music, channeling her pain and triumphs into six powerful tracks.

ZZ Ward has spent the last decade navigating the demands of the music industry, but with her latest
release, Mother, she’s back where she belongs: at the top of the blues world. The EP, her debut for
Sun Records, captures the essence of the genre’s greatest talents—channeling heartbreak,
resilience, and strength into a collection that’s both deeply personal and universally relatable.
“Making this record was a process of coming back to myself,” Ward explains. “The blues has always
been my most authentic voice, and now I’m back to it.”

The title track, “Mother,” is a gut-punch of a song that showcases Ward’s vocal power and lyrical
depth. With its gritty, Chicago blues-inspired sound, it’s a fitting tribute to the challenges of balancing
her identity as a mother and a performer. The song’s raw emotion is a standout moment, making it

With the Dirty Sun Tour set to kick off next month, Ward is poised to reintroduce herself to audiences
