January 31st, 2025 will mark a major milestone for legendary rock band moe. With the release of their 14th studio album, Circle of Giants, moe. will embark on a year of celebration, commemorating their 35th anniversary with a new collection of music and an extensive U.S. tour. In a nod to the band’s enduring resilience and musical evolution, Circle of Giants reflects on the journey of moe. through decades of highs and lows, bringing fans a fresh sound infused with introspective lyrics, masterful instrumentation, and dynamic energy.
To celebrate, moe. is releasing the album’s first single, “Ups and Downs,” today, accompanied by an electrifying live video of their August 2024 performance at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO. Watch HERE. The song is a relatable take on the ups and downs of relationships, blending honest lyrics with an infectious groove. “Ups and Downs” dives into the highs and lows we all face, capturing the rollercoaster of emotions in a way that feels both personal and universal. It’s a track that hits close to home while keeping the energy high.
“Ups and Downs came about from an experiment I conducted during the pandemic in 2020,” shares bassist Rob Derhak. “There was a lot of uncertainty about our future, and the touring music business was especially uncertain. Stuck at home, and left to my own devices, I began working on my home digital recording setup.”
“I came up with the idea of trying to write songs for people, and ‘Ups and Downs’ was one of those songs,” he continues. “It began with a conversation and a story. A man wanted me to write a song for him that could help express his feelings for his wife and their relationship. He wrote an email about how they met, but what struck me most was when he said, ‘Like anyone else, we’ve had our ups and downs.’ Once I read that, my mind opened up, and I was able to draw from my own experiences in personal relationships, and thus, the song ‘Ups and Downs’ was born.”
Available on CD as well as a 2xLP set on vibrant Orange/Red and Hot Pink/Sky Blue Galaxy vinyl, Circle of Giants serves as both a musical tribute and a personal reflection. 2025 is moe.’s chance to celebrate their legacy in full, after the global shutdowns of 2020 interrupted plans for their 30th anniversary. The years since have brought challenges, including co-founder Chuck Garvey’s remarkable recovery from a stroke and bassist Rob Derhak’s recent personal loss. Despite it all, moe. has turned obstacles into inspiration. Circle of Giants—with tracks like “Yellow Tigers,” “Band in the Sky,” and “Living Again”—embodies the perseverance and passion that has defined moe. for over three decades.
Circle of Giants also marks the debut of keyboardist Nate Wilson on a moe. studio release. Wilson, who officially joined the band in 2023, contributed two tracks to the album, “Yellow Tigers” and “Giants,” showcasing his dynamic songwriting and adding a new dimension to moe.’s signature sound.
To coincide with the album release, moe. will embark on an extensive winter tour beginning at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, OR on Thursday, January 30th. The tour spans the U.S., hitting fan-favorite cities and iconic venues. Continuing their commitment to mental health awareness, $1 from each ticket sold will benefit Backline, supporting mental health resources for touring musicians and their families.
A special Artist Presale will open on Wednesday, November 13th at 10am local time (Password: CHEERS35YRS), followed by a Local Presale on Thursday, November 14th.
