2ŁØT Preview RE/SOLVE With “Iris,” a Funk-Soul Collaboration That Keeps Its Feet on the Ground

A song about self-worth can easily become too clean or too obvious. 2ŁØT avoid that trap on “Iris” by building the message into a groove rather than placing it on a pedestal. The new single is warm, melodic, and inviting, but it has enough rhythmic motion to keep the track from floating away.
“Iris” appears on the band’s upcoming album RE/SOLVE, out July 31, and features Eric Krasno on guitar. Krasno’s contribution is likely to be the headline for many listeners, especially those coming from the jam, funk, and soul worlds. He brings the right kind of looseness to the song, with wah-infused lines that deepen the pocket and add a bluesy undercurrent.
The track also benefits from Ben Bohorquez and Evan Weiss of The Funky Knuckles, whose horn performances make the song feel bigger without pushing it into overstatement. Their playing adds brightness, but also discipline. The arrangement has plenty happening, yet the song remains uncluttered.
2ŁØT call their sound Electronic Jam Music, and “Iris” is a strong example of what that phrase can mean when it works. The band’s foundation pulls from live funk and soul, but the structure has a modern, flexible quality. There is a tempo shift inspired by J Dilla, a jazz-leaning horn presence, and a vocal performance from Rudy Love Jr. that keeps the human message in view.
The song came out of a week-long creative retreat at Good Noise Studio in Palm Springs. According to Robert Trusko, the band was experimenting, laughing, and trying ideas in real time when the track started to take shape. Trusko and drummer Omar Jahwar II built the rhythmic bed, then Love Jr. responded quickly with a verse after hearing the switch-up. That kind of story lines up with the track’s feel: crafted, but still alive.
The emotional focus of “Iris” is direct. “Iris, you know how beautiful you are” is the line Trusko has identified as the heart of the song. It points to a familiar but difficult kind of growth: learning to see yourself clearly after life has made that hard. 2ŁØT handle the idea with care, avoiding melodrama and letting the band’s chemistry do much of the work.
Across RE/SOLVE, 2ŁØT are joined by Jon Batiste, Robert Randolph, Eric Krasno, Elise Trouw, Cameron McCloud, Frank Moka, Mariel Jacoda, and others. That list suggests a record with serious scope. “Iris” suggests the album may also have restraint, which matters. It is a collaborative track with big names attached, but its lasting appeal comes from the way it feels: steady, open, and quietly encouraging.
