Chris Stapleton to appear at Extra Innings Festival, in Tempe Arizona
Chris Stapleton is not just a country star. He’s a songwriter who has penned hits for some of the biggest names in music, from Adele to Luke Bryan. He’s also a versatile artist who can blend genres and styles with ease, as he demonstrated on his latest album, Starting Over.
Stapleton started his career as a songwriter in Nashville, where he co-wrote six number one songs for artists like Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Darius Rucker. He also wrote songs for pop and rock acts, such as “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” for Adele, “Never Wanted Nothing More” for Kelly Clarkson and “Crash and Burn” for Sheryl Crow.
But Stapleton didn’t just write songs for others. He also performed as a lead singer of the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers, and as a member of the southern rock supergroup The Jompson Brothers. In 2015, he released his solo debut album, Traveller, which won him two Grammy Awards and catapulted him to fame.
Stapleton’s success continued with his next two albums, From A Room: Volume 1 and Volume 2, which showcased his diverse influences and collaborations. He worked with artists like Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran and Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers. He also explored different sounds and themes, from soulful ballads to bluesy rockers.
On his fourth album, Starting Over, Stapleton returned to his roots and recorded most of the songs live with his band at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville. The album features 14 tracks, 11 of which he co-wrote with his longtime collaborators Mike Henderson and Kendell Marvel. The album also includes three covers of songs by John Fogerty, Guy Clark and Willie Nelson.
Starting Over is a testament to Stapleton’s talent and versatility as a songwriter and a performer. He delivers heartfelt vocals and guitar solos that showcase his emotion and skill. He also tackles topics such as love, loss, redemption and social justice with honesty and depth. He proves that he’s not just a country star, but a musical icon.
