Singer-Songwriter Hunter Benson releases powerful, moving ballad, “Heaven’s Letter”

Singer Songwriter Hunter Benson is a true storyteller unafraid of delving deep into the untethered subconscious to fully explore the emotion-heavy themes behind his songs. A seemingly imposing figure who has pushed through it all and come out the other side with hard-earned wisdom, when you speak to Hunter, he is as unintimidating, approachable, kind and compassionate as it gets. Leaning into truth and his own life experience as a primary motivator, his authentic voice and song craftsmanship lends itself to powerful human themes often avoided and feared, such as trauma and grief.
Early influences such as Alice in Chains and Mark Lanegan coupled with the southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more have helped shape Hunter’s unique sound into a brooding mix of Country, Southern and Grunge Rock while allowing him to honor his past and dream of his future with an Americana feel and down and dirty gusto that is both thought provoking and mystically fulfilling. Hunter combines these styles into a signature sound that capitalizes on the looseness, flow and genuine raw power they all, at their best, wield. Hunter’s soulful, raspy vocal delivery echoes other artists true to their craft such as Chris Stapleton, Joe Cocker and the aforementioned Mark Lanegan.
Hunter Benson’s latest single, “Heavens Letter”, is a deeply moving and powerful ballad that reflects on personal loss, grief, and the longing for connection after a tragedy. Drawing from the profound experience and tragedy of being struck by lightning at three years old with his father and brother. Bearing witness to his father’s death, Heavens Letter captures the raw emotion and lingering impact of that devastating moment. Benson’s soulful, evocative vocals paint a portrait of loss that feels both intensely personal and universally relatable. Heavens Letter is more than just a song- it’s a cathartic expression of the love and grief that accompanies the loss of a parent, a testament to Hunter Benson’s strength as both a storyteller and musician. The song’s poignant lyrics and stirring melody make it a tribute to his father and a healing letter to the heavens. It’s a timeless anthem for anyone who has experienced the agony of losing someone they love too soon.
“Heaven’s Letter” was released on February 21, 2025. Hunter is currently working on an EP release due late 2025. Prior to “Heaven’s Letter”, two other potent singles have been released; “Come and Gone” (10/24/2024) and “Seeking” (12/7/24). “Come and Gone” is a haunting rock-country ballad that fuses the gritty edge of rock with the soulful melancholy of country storytelling. “Seeking” is a gritty, soul-stirring country rock anthem with a defiant energy, declaring a refusal to stop seeking, even when the answers feel out of reach.

Come and Gone-. Hunter Benson’s debut release is a haunting rock-country ballad that fuses the gritty edge of rock with the soulful melancholy of country storytelling. Driven by a steady rhythm of electric guitar and a mournful slide, the song reflects on the fleeting nature of time and the ghosts left behind. Inspired by the lightning strike that claimed his father’s life when Hunter was three, Benson channels a lifetime of quiet reflection into lyrics that ache with both sorrow and grit. The track paints a vivid picture of a man standing at the crossroads of memory staring at a horizon where storms once raged—singing of moments and people that have slipped away too soon. The chorus swells with a bittersweet resolve, blending raucous chords with a lonesome twang, as Hunter’s voice carries the weight of a survivor who’s learned to live with what’s come and gone. It’s a rugged yet tender tribute to loss, love, and the echoes that linger long after the thunder fades. Released 10/25/24
Seeking- “Seeking” by Hunter Benson is a gritty, soul-stirring rock-country anthem that blends raw electric guitar riffs with twangy undertones, telling a story of restless yearning and hard-earned redemption. Drawing from Benson’s own life, the song hints at the lightning strike that took his father’s life when Hunter was just three, leaving him to navigate a world of unanswered questions. Played with a rugged intensity, the track follows a man searching for meaning amidst the echoes of a fractured past. Hunter’s weathered voice wrestles with loss, fate, and the faint hope of finding peace. The chorus surges with a defiant energy, declaring a refusal to stop seeking, even when the answers feel out of reach. Equal parts heartache and horsepower, “Seeking” captures the spirit of a survivor chasing something bigger than himself, making it a powerful ode to resilience in the face of life’s storms. Release 12/7/24
