Steve Winwood Photos, Indianapolis 10.25.13

By on October 29, 2013

The last time I saw Steve Winwood was in 2010 I think, touring with Santana at a large outside venue in Indianapolis. I photographed the show and was comped box seats.  This year, Winwood came to the Murat Theater, an intimate old theater that holds about 2700 I think. What a difference!

The acoustics and the crowd in their 50s and 60s made this show just fabulous. People had their stories of their first time they saw Steve, or Traffic, Blind Faith or some other anecdote. I saw one cellphone in the air only, the rest seemed to be in the moment, and what a moment it was. I shot my songs, and sat back to enjoy the show with my guest and an outrageously priced double whiskey sour. Two percussionists and a woodwind playing multi-instrumentalist named Paul Booth who filled in for Steve on the keyboards while Steve played guitar, and Jose Neto made this the tightest 5 piece band I’ve heard in years.  Each of these world class musicians were highlighted during about a 15 minute version of “Light Up Or Leave Me Alone.”

The audience were truly fans, who stood when Winwood took the stage and sat back down. They stood for ovations, were quiet and respectful, and sat back down.

Some of these photos appear to be very intense in the color, but are optimized for printing. As I know almost nothing about Photoshop, for the most part, what you see is what I saw.

If you were there, or just want to comment on the photo gallery, Steve in general or even what you are having for dinner, please feel free to leave your thoughts below.
