Some collaborations just feel right—and Twilight Muse linking up with George Porter Jr. is one of them. The New Orleans funk pioneer brings his unmistakable bass swagger to “The Mayor,” a newly released live single that anchors the band’s just-dropped album Collabs: Live at Garcia’s at The Cap. The track, recorded during a soundcheck no less, captures that rare alchemy when a song stretches beyond what the band originally imagined.

The rest of the album is no less ambitious. From Robert Randolph and G. Love reworking Stevie Wonder to John Popper lending harmonica grit to a “Miss You / I Will Survive” medley, Collabs is a confident flex from a band that knows exactly what kind of playground it’s built for. It’s funky, fluid, and full of joy—and most importantly, it sounds like a band genuinely loving what they’re doing.

The album’s charm lies in its looseness. It doesn’t try too hard to prove anything. Twilight Muse just invites you in, hands you a drink, and lets the groove do the talking.
